Mount Paul – by Donnalee, Dan’s better half

Waking up on Tuesday morning Dan was unaware of his new career path as Evil Knievel, for today was the day that he was to be properly initiated as a mountain biker and buy a large piece of land. He said goodbye to me and Mrs Batman (we weren’t crazy enough to ride in the freezing) and set off to conquer the mighty Mount Paul.

Early on in the Mt Paul ride the racing snakes group decided to have a DOC’s climbing challenge and see who could zoom up the steep concrete road to the cell phone tower waaaayyyy on the very top of Mount Paul. The eager Dan raced successfully up the hill and admired the views (and maybe one or two of the DOCs walking up the hill). Excited for the fast decent, he climbed back on his bike and he was off. BUT then! Disaster struck! He was not quite as successful in beating his bike back done the hill. The entertained crowd at the bottom hill exclaimed: Oh no, aaah, eina, ouch, is that the youngster? Each time as he bounced and rolled down the hill.

The DOCs rushed back up to help as they thought: Is he dead? Wait…. no…. he is up and stumbling about? Where is he going, oooh trying to find his bike… Shit, wish we had that on a GO PRO.

After the search and rescue they found his bike – almost in one piece with only a broken saddle as evidence. However, the same could not be said for his torn pants, cracked helmet, ripped gloves, smashed iPhone screen, bent credit card (oh no thinks Donnalee) and pride. But after a good helping of roastie spray and mercurochrome, they were off to finish the iconic ride.

The remainder of the ride went off without a hitch, excepting for the argument between Batman’s knee and the barbed wire fence. The downhill single track was all that it promised to be and even though Dan was a bit bruised and sore, it was definitely an unforgettable ride with the awesome DOC family!
